Fanny Hickman emancipation act, 1834, 1840

This collection contains a photocopy of an "Act of Manumission" freeing Fanny Hickman and her children from slavery in Burke County, Georgia, in 1834. The act is signed by Governor Wilson Lumpkin. The act was filed six years later in 1840 and signed by Governor Charles J. McDonald.

Robert Flournoy (1763-1825) was born in Virginia. He married Mary Willis Cobb in 1794. Flournoy was a Captain in the 1st Georgia regiment of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
